Squire Benjamin William Sullivan stood in the middle of Light’s Hope Chapel in his underpants.

Actually, it was white linen pants and a shift, but the effect was approximately the same. The little chapel was warm, on the edge of …

So it’s Thursday…

And I can’t bring myself to come up with anything to post – largely because I’ve not logged in since … two weeks ago?  I didn’t get to even raid last week because of the (expletive deleted) phone company.

SO!  I hereby ask that you send me comments with fun and entertaining WoW stories to brighten my inbox as I attempt to dig my way out of the box-castle I seem to be developing.  I will try to keep an eye on my inbox so I can reply to them (and if they are awesome, maybe they’ll even inspire the Friday Five tomorrow!).

  1. Well, I got my spirit beast! :) Finally! I have yet to write my post about it, but his name is Ethala and is Darnassian for “wanted”. :)
Also, I’m back on my wow-blog rather than having had them merged together.

Hoping the moving is going well for you! We will be doing the same as soon as we sell our property. Goodness knows when that will be though.

WOO! That’s awesome – and a really awesome name!

Sent to me by Athorius: “When we were kids, after we moved to Carmel, we took all the empty boxes and taped them together to make a giant, kid-sized network of gerbil tunnels in the basement. Headquarters was in the refrigerator box.” I’ve decided that I need one of these, though I have no basement. Maybe the spare bedroom?

  3. The first time I moved, from one flat to another just down the road, I had maybe 12 boxes. 18 years later, when I moved from one flat to another just down the road, I had 334.

  4. I think that your friday feature tomorrow should be a 500. Make it not so much a story, but rather a chat log, akin to the Lich King chat that’s been circulating around the nether these past few days. Probably works better for individuals that have multiple characters, but oh well.

  5. @krizzlybear:

I have been informed (by a friend that went through and collected all of them) that I’ve done 95 Friday Five questions. Which makes tomorrow the 100th question. I’m hoping I think of something amazing for it tomorrow!

  6. Here’s a thought I had this week, if you ever want to throw this on the blog:

“How are your abilities and talents defined by who your character is?”

I was thinking about this as I was leveling Norvallen, in my usual sort of hazily-immersed state. There’s this DK talent, Vendetta, that heals you some each time you kill a worthy foe. And there’s this DK spell, Death Pact, which heals you quite a bit by sacrificing your ghoul.

It dawned on me for no reason at all, as I was in the midst of battling elites I really had no business going up against, that those abilities weren’t a supernatural curative effect–no, they were a literal representation of self-satisfaction. This character’s ego is such that she is genuinely refreshed upon besting an opponent, all the more ready to take on the next. And her thing against mindless undead? Nothing compares, in her twisted little brain, to the sheer joy that is calling up an unholy servant from the abyss only for it to stand helplessly as you deprive it of it’s misbegotten life force just because you CAN. This = A healing spell.

So I say, if the idea strikes, think about your own abilities and talents, the stuff you use all the time but probably never actually think about. What is it they’re REALLY doing when you click that button the action bar, or this or that buff procs up?

On a tangent I just got from that: HP alone, it should be noted, is a pretty ambiguous mechanic. Just what it IS as it actually relates to your characters health is hazily defined in nearly EVERY game that uses it, not just WoW (since most games, having it drop has no discernable effect on their performance). Regardless; blood loss, fatigue, adrenaline, will to live, spirit, moxie, “the power of love”; there’s another one to figure out. What is HP (and even mana, energy, rage, or runic power!) as it relates to your character, too?

If you couldn’t tell; I find joy in applying characterization to metagame concerns. I’ll let you know if I think of any more of these.

  7. I have an idea for FF… how does your character smile?

It’s been driving me nuts because I can not draw one of my characters smiling sincerely, even though I know all his mechanics in theory.

Course this can be expanded to humour in general. Ie. What’s one joke your character will always tell at parties to the great dismay of friends?

  8. Amusing WoW Story:

Remember the Cult of Batta? Somewhere out there, there is a picture of Aleros, High Priest of Batta, glowing with waffle power.

In truth, said waffle power came from a DI I placed on him. In fact, I even /gquit and joined the Cult Of Batta. Coincidentally, this was the beginning of the end Bricu’s drinking.

…I believe that was also the same night he told Threnn he loved her for the first time. She got to the Pig and he was already drunk off his ass, and she decided to catch up.
