It didn’t take long to get from Thunder Bluff to the Echo Isles – Ankona took advantage of a wyvern so she could think and plan before getting to her destination. She had information to confirm with the spirits – was Gromnor dead? Was he really in the northern part of the Eastern Kingdoms, somewhere […]

Dear Blizzard –

I know it’s pretty common to wipe once on a boss that nobody in a group has seen before.  And I know sometimes weird stuff happens and people randomly keel over when they aren’t in combat yet (wtf, Cyanigosa, W.T.F?).  But I really do think that you could tweak the helpful little crystals in Violet Hold that are meant to bail you out when things get rough.

Because, in heroic mode, they do about 20% of the total health of any of the trash mobs.  It’s actually more useful to leave your DPSers in the fight than waste the time running over to the side to poke the crystals.  Really – not very helpful, even if you’re just using them to try to speed the instance along a bit.

Oh, and PS: To My Readers

Just a fair warning – I don’t mind disagreements, and love getting comments and emails – you guys have been awesome, and I’ve enjoyed our contact outside the blog.  But if you’re going to send me nasty, asshattish, internet f*ckwad theory emails, they WILL get published and publicly ridiculed.

I don’t like having to address this, but there’s been a bit of a trend of late – so let’s nip that now, and get back to enjoying civil discourse and totems. (:

  3. @Rhoelyn:

Every time I hear the phrase “what do you think of those apples” I’m reminded of when I lived in Paris, staying with a lovely grandmother (who spoke no English at all) as an exchange student. Someone on the phone was griping about something and she waved her hands around and (in her wonderful little angry Parisian grandma way) yelled “Well, those aren’t MY onions”.

At which I was thoroughly perplexed, until I realized that that was the Parisian equivalent of “That’s not my problem, quit whining”.

  5. Hah. I’ll take apples over onions any day. 😉 Etymology of some of our crazy phrases can be hilarious. Maybe it’s time to go see how the apples and the onions are related…

PS: Funny French Parisian grammas? That intrigues me.

    Still loopy,

  6. That phrase is no in-grained with me to be the image from the Sarah Silverman “I’m f***ing Matt Damon” video.

“Hey Jimmy, you do you like *these* apples?”

  7. She was a hoot – she knew enough English to count to 10, figure out what foods I was allergic to or didn’t like, and say on the phone “I don’t speak English, my American student is coming”. (Yes, I took all her English-speaking phone calls while I lived there!) It was a blast – I wish I could still speak more than broken French!

  8. I love seeing people making asses on themselves, even in writing. I know its evil of me to encourage people to be retarded, but I enjoy seeing the insane whatnot they come up with. On note of your post, I’ve only done heroic VH once, and didn’t use the crystals. I didn’t even know what they are for -.- Good to know!

  9. Those crystals are only for the adds on the water elemental guy really…any other mobs/boss and you’re better just killing them the old fashioned way.
