Big Bear Butt presents Hamlet
Kinda.
Bear tackles roleplaying and how it relates to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (which is Hamlet, in a roundabout sort of way).
His main point, which I absolutely agree with, is that we’re like R&G in that play/film. We’re not Hamlet – we’re not Arthas. We’re not Jaina Proudmoore’s younger sister who has a love affair with Illidan and is conspiring against Kael’thas.
We’re like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern – minor characters that go about doing our own things and our own lives and occasionally having brushes with greatness, but having separate and equally interesting adventures as well.
I’m just hoping that the end of WoW is somewhat happier than the end of Hamlet (at least, I hope the good guys get to live!).

i’ll agree with both yours and BBB’s points that we are indeed just minor characters within the grand scheme of the lore, but i do want to emphasize your point that we do “occasionally having brushes with greatness.”
occasionally, yes, if not more. if we didn’t, we wouldn’t be capable of taking down arthas in groups of 10, or even kill van cleef at level 17.
I also 100% agree with BBB, though it is important not to take it to the extreme and make your character super-bland. When I first started RP in WoW I was so afraid that I would come off as trying to make myself overly special, that I made all my characters super boring and bland and it just wasn’t fun. Eventually I learned how to give them their own sparks and quirks… and I <3 them all!
