So TRI has had some issues in past weeks. Attendance problems, weeks off, getting smited by the gods of the ISP. And Thursday night… well… it wasn’t so hot. Too many subs, not enough regular raid mains, Vashj was a joke (couldn’t get a single core dunked) and Al’ar was rough. After Void Reaver they called the raid.
Last night, however, was our first trip to Hyjal – a tentative, let’s see what’s up with this kind of night. And *everyone* showed up – 25 raid mains. Everyone read the strategies for Winterchill. Everyone brought, as they say, the A-Game.
And we oneshot Rage Winterchill with 22 people.
And then, for kicks and giggles, we oneshot Anetheron and Kaz’rogal too.
There was no posted strategy for Kaz’rogal. We were given a 5 minute break to read bosskillers, and then we pulled the trash. And I think we did Kaz’rogal with no deaths. The TRI Leadership opted to quit Hyjal then, while we were ahead, and go take out Vashj, which we did with frightening ease and alacrity.
Personally, I think we could’ve taken Azgalor, but that it might not have been a oneshot like the first three bosses. It would’ve been nice to go 4/5 Hyjal our first night in though. There were many people that didn’t have a single death all night (I died once during the Anetheron fight, but popped an ankh)
And on top of all that? Annorah picked up a Bastion of Light AND a Lightfathom Sceptre – both of which are now gemmed/enchanted. My only worry about taking both is that now the Enamelled Disc of Mojo and the Dark Blessing will drop in Zul’Aman (and the shield is arguably better than the Hyjal one) – but I’m not too worried, and will probably pick up both. I’m slowly building a spellhaste set anyway.
Anyway – afterwards, I went with a group of people (one of whom happened to have a Black Temple instance ID) and polished off a bunch of the Ashtongue Deathsworn quests – now I just have this quest that wants to sit in my quest log until we kill the Shade of Akama. I got my Blessed Medallion of Karabor, which should help in Hyjal in the future too.
In short, though, last night was a reminder of what 25 determined people can do when they all show up, geared and ready. When you know each other, you know your stuff, and you’re all paying attention. And really – it’s just what TRI needed. We’ve got Kael’thas on the menu – and without a little push of adrenaline, I was starting to worry about the progression of the raid. People weren’t showing up – lots of fluctuation in the roster. And, as they say, a raid group that doesn’t raid – isn’t a raid group. There are lots of ways to rejuvenate a raid, and 3 bosses in something I’m pretty sure will help.
And it was a total blast.
I only hope that what happened last night was not a function of “new stuff” and that people arem’t going to flake out on farming nights in the future.
