Also - the lowbie "Earthen Ring" quests were worth 11,600 XP at 67 - and there were 4 of them. The fourth is a repeatable daily quest in Hellfire Peninsula.

This just in! With my level 64 mage, each of the capital city fires was worth 8050 XP. The Alliance fires were 5400, and the Horde fires were 10,750. The initial Torch Tossing and Torch Catching quests were also each 10,750. So now you know. This event was made for leveling. O.O

Yeah - right now I'm playing a relatively odd build that's not the highest DPS in a group, but reckoning is *nice* for soloing. I really don't see Aelflaed tanking (ever), but I CAN see her either being ret or healing, so I'm focusing on those two sets right now. She's such a 4th string alt, though, that I really don't see her getting much in the way of real gear unless I get super lucky.

Also - healing is kind of my go-to spec, since I'm very comfortable in that role, and I'm good at it - melee DPS is a step out of my comfort zone most of the time.

The gear dependency thing is something I noticed right away though, so I've made sure I"ve had good solid weapons at least for leveling. Right now I've got a Halaani Claymore (80ish DPS) and it's quite nice.

I was having a blast doin those quests on Vanova. Im a secret world PvPer at heart and we had a pitched battle in Winterspring the other day as I put out the fire outside everlook just as a BE shadow priest landed there. Before we knew what happened there were a dozen combatants in a fight which lasted until someone accidentally chain lightninged the horde flight master (*cough*I may have been the only shaman*cough*).

Re Paladining. Ret is extremely gear dependant and to a certain amount, class mix dependant. However, it scales well - every single talent you normally pick up is a % boost. Dont be afraid to snag "hunter" style mail initially as you're gearing up and where possible you want to group with one or more of:

- another paladin (Might and Wisdom together help your DPS a lot, kings becomes more useful as your gear gets better, more specifically as your strength scales past 400-500. Salvation is a necessity as well depending on who's tanking)
- Shaman, preferably Enhancement. SoA, Mana Spring, GoA totems are all amazing as is a 10% AP boost from a enhancement shammy. However, Windfury is just sick. For Mac its easily a 200DPS boost.
- Warrior, Battle shout is amazing. Arms warriors stack well with Ret due to blood frenzy.
- Shadow priests, the constant mana regen helps spam DPS abilities you often cant spam - namely consecration.

Sadly, in a group full of casters, we really dont perform well.

I think the main thing about ret is to stick at it if you want to do it. Gearing up for an off-spec at this late stage of BC is going to be a lot trickier than it was when I was prot.
