Guest Post! Balance between RL and WOW
comment Comments Off on Guest Post! Balance between RL and WOW Written by on February 12, 2008 – 10:40 am

So today I bring you something new for Keine Ordnung – and something that I hope will happen periodically over the life of this blog. A guest post! This time, from a very good friend (who signs himself Opaladin in comments) who doesn’t have a blog of his own. He’s the one responsible for the name of this place though, and apparently was compelled by my ramblings to tell his own story about Warcraft and balance. It’s a pretty interesting read! And so, here’s Zelig/Opalatheta/etc, on the subject of Warcraft and Real Life.

I found myself starting to play WoW in the fall of 2005.

I moved back to Germany in late 2004 after 9 months of looking for employment – I ended up as a contractor working for the Air Force. Prior to leaving for Germany I knew that it (Germany) wasn’t where I wanted to go with my life (I had been stationed there while I was on Active Duty) – I was going on 30 and felt the need to put down some roots. I love Germany; I just knew it wasn’t where I wanted to go – it wouldn’t be permanent. And so, after hearing all the guys that I worked with talk about WoW, I bought a copy. Around the same time, I started cycling / mountain bike racing, but knew that I wouldn’t get much riding in during the winter – I needed something to keep me entertained.

Arena Gear
comment Comments Off on Arena Gear Written by on February 12, 2008 – 9:31 am

So I had a few comments suggesting that I try losing in Arenas for a few weeks to get some season 2 gear instead of grinding all the honor.  Which would, I suppose, be very good advice, except that I really don’t like arenas.  That, and both of the teams I’m on have flaked out and we never went more than the first week.  Besides the fact that resto shaman = cannon fodder, so I stop being useful because I start being dead.  Shadow priests don’t fare too well either – and I may get Anna the PVP gear instead of the spellstrike.  Because I’m broke.

And, in reality, all those upgrades are in the event that I don’t get another upgrade first, or decide to reroll horde or something.

Blood Knight Lore

From the PTR, supposedly, an interesting development in the Lore behind Blood Knights.  Anryl, being a Farstrider, still isn’t sure what to make of them, and I see this having potentially large ramifications.

Real Life vs. WoW

So, among the many tasty topics in the blogstorming section of BlogAzeroth is a set of “shared topic” ideas – things that we can all tackle and hopefully learn something about each other and from each other. I’ve taken a few days to muse over this one, and read through a lot of the other fabulous posts that people have made regarding balance and warcraft, and I think I might be ready to tackle this one.

Forgive me if I dig into ancient history here, but I started playing this game the summer before my senior year in college. And, for awhile, I did really well with balance. It was summer, I had my jobs but not much else. So I played Angoleth a fair amount, RP’d a fair amount, and generally had a good time. This was before I had a guild, any alts, or classwork to do. That following fall I think was the hardest classwork I had the entire time I was in college, and WoW… didn’t help. I did a pretty fair job of managing things, partially because I was very excited about what I was learning and partially because Angoleth was level 30ish and I didn’t have the all consuming end game to fight through. I managed well enough that I basically took the spring semester out of the game, because of my research thesis and planning my wedding to Dauganimir (his paladin’s name, and an easy way to refer to him). And that’s when things got bad. That summer, I went jobless, thanks to the sucky economy and my not having a permanent place to live, and so I did a lot more gaming than usual. Started raiding Molten Core and BWL. Rolled 4 or 5 alts (a few of whom are still with me) and leveled the priest to 60. And when that last semester started, things got rough.

Descent and Ascent

September 8, 2015 – 9:51 pm

It didn’t take long to get from Thunder Bluff to the Echo Isles – Ankona took advantage of a wyvern so she could think and plan before getting to her destination. She had information to confirm with the spirits – …

The Stink Eye, Part II: You remind me of the babe

August 4, 2015 – 12:22 pm

An old story, reposted here as I’m shaking the mothballs off Ankona and needed an easy way to show people a little bit about the (batshit) things she gets up to. Enjoy, and don’t be too creeped out!

It really …

Very First Impressions

November 14, 2014 – 7:32 am

So I haven’t finished the intro quests yet (the server queues from the reduced server capacity due to the DDOS attacks meant I only got about an hour to play yesterday), but I’m finding that Draenor is pretty cool so …

A Girl and her Dog

November 13, 2014 – 12:30 pm

The morning of the all hands summon to the Blasted Lands, Aely went for a walk. The late fall air was clear and cool, and leaves crunched under their feet in the less-traveled parts of the streets. She and Roger …

Counting down to Warlords

November 11, 2014 – 3:09 pm

What a long strange trip it’s been. I’ll be the first to admit that, at the beginning, I wasn’t sure Pandaria was going to be for me. I’ve made clear my dislike of daily quests, and that seemed to be …

Actually, it was white linen pants and a shift, but the effect was approximately the same. The little chapel was warm, on the edge of …

Introducing the Newest Anna

June 29, 2014 – 4:39 pm

So I’m not really in a position where I should be creating alts. This, of course, does nothing to deter me from making alts when the inspiration strikes. I’ve been really enjoying my Alliance hunter, and she’s my raiding main …
