So, in the interest of being interesting, and because he’s generally awesome like that, today’s post is brought to you by none other than Tarquin ap Danwyrith, rogue, rapscallion, and mastermind behind the madness that is Totally Raids, Incorporated.
I’ve been raiding with TRI since August (I think?) and it’s been a great time. Finding a progressing 25 man raid that not only is RP friendly but that has active character interactions during the raid itself isn’t really easy, even on a (so-called) RP Server, and I’m really happy to have the chance to raid with them. Tarquin, being our fearless leader, has had the rather unenviable job of corralling the 25 headless chickens into being 5/6 SSC/ 2/4 TK, and somewhere in there he’s had some time to reflect on all that leadership…

Why Everyone Should Lead A Raid

Beginning the process of switching over from wordpress.com to self hosted wordpress blogging! Yay for some control over how things look around here. I’d appreciate your patience as I get things transferred over, and hopefully all will go smoothly from here.
I will be switching my feedburner feed to point at this site shortly, so any of you that have subscribed through the RSS feed shouldn’t have too much trouble.

Or How I learned to Stop Worrying (about overheal) and Love my Chain Heal Button
So, this is the first of two posts covering some aspects of raiding and resto shamans. You can read Part Two here.
Blathering the First (for you who play resto shaman):
Know your strengths: You have Four (count’em) things that you bring to a raid that no other healing class does.
- Multiple Target Healing
- Heroism/Bloodlust
- Totems
- Earthshield
Chain Heal Makes You Awesome
Nobody – and I mean nobody – can group heal like a shaman can. Yes, other classes have group heals, and they’re quite useful, but they’re also mana expensive, time expensive, and at the cost of other healing spells. As a healing shaman, you can expect as much as 90% of your healing to come from chain heal on some fights. Why is this? Because Chain Heal is the single most effective healing spell you have if it bounces (and often, even if it doesn’t).
Don’t believe me? Watch this (given 1800 +heal) :

So, every raid has hot nights and cold nights. Sometimes it’s your fault, sometimes it’s not. Tonight… well, it wasn’t really our fault. Disconnects, lag, Hydross deciding he really didn’t care about threat lists (wut tank? lawl!), our MT/Frost Resist tank not being able to stay connected more than 30 seconds at a time, preggo warlocks and hunters having to leave because of tired/sickness. Just one of those runs, and for being an off night, we did actually kill 3 bosses in SSC. And sometimes, even in the off nights, fun things happen.
Ventrilo Conversation:
(Hunter Class Lead): “Uh… guys?”
(HCL): “I, I’m going to need a minute I think.”
(HCL): “My wife just, er… I’m going to be a father.”
<random twittering>
(Raid Leader): “Ok, Hunter2, you take over misdirects. HCL just switched realities on us. HCL, you need to go lie down?”
Making that not one, not two, but THREE babies in my 25 man raid, all due next October/November. Our MT and Warlock class lead are expecting their third, and one of our hunters is expecting (unexpectedly) her first. And now the hunter class lead has come over all daddy-like. His wife has excellent timing too, right in the middle of a Leotheras trash pull.
I guess that means we just have to get tier 6 down by next October…
