Real Life vs. WoW

So, among the many tasty topics in the blogstorming section of BlogAzeroth is a set of “shared topic” ideas – things that we can all tackle and hopefully learn something about each other and from each other. I’ve taken a few days to muse over this one, and read through a lot of the other fabulous posts that people have made regarding balance and warcraft, and I think I might be ready to tackle this one.

Forgive me if I dig into ancient history here, but I started playing this game the summer before my senior year in college. And, for awhile, I did really well with balance. It was summer, I had my jobs but not much else. So I played Angoleth a fair amount, RP’d a fair amount, and generally had a good time. This was before I had a guild, any alts, or classwork to do. That following fall I think was the hardest classwork I had the entire time I was in college, and WoW… didn’t help. I did a pretty fair job of managing things, partially because I was very excited about what I was learning and partially because Angoleth was level 30ish and I didn’t have the all consuming end game to fight through. I managed well enough that I basically took the spring semester out of the game, because of my research thesis and planning my wedding to Dauganimir (his paladin’s name, and an easy way to refer to him). And that’s when things got bad. That summer, I went jobless, thanks to the sucky economy and my not having a permanent place to live, and so I did a lot more gaming than usual. Started raiding Molten Core and BWL. Rolled 4 or 5 alts (a few of whom are still with me) and leveled the priest to 60. And when that last semester started, things got rough.

Sometimes it’s just better if you didn’t know…

So I went through my gear lists, for the Shadow Priest and the Shaman. Anna’s healing gear is about the best she’s going to get without a regular Karazhan run or respeccing to mooncloth tailoring. Which ain’t gonna’ happen, because I’m NOT getting into 300g respecs because each time I have to respec tailoring to wear my other-set-gear. Which means that this morning, I sat down with my loot lists and my HEP/DEP/EnhEP spreadsheets and all that jazz, and came up with the following:

Annalira needs to have the following crafted:

  • Cloak of the Black Void
  • Girdle of Ruination
  • Spellstrike Hood
  • Spellstrike Pants

And she needs the following Honor gear:

  • Vindicator’s Silk Cuffs – 12K honor, 20 WSG marks
  • Gladiator’s Spellblade – 25.2K honor, 20 EotS marks

Which, all in all, constitutes to an asston (imperial) of netherweave and primals, and about 38K honor, and some marks from EotS and WSG. All in all, not too bad. The rest of her gear is in decent shape, what with frozen shadoweave. Fortunately, Anna is done with badge gear for now.

Annorah, being that I’m a respec maven and unable to decide just what kind of shaman I like being for any long period of time, needs… a lot. Like, staggeringly a lot. Like, the list is so long that if I bulleted it all, it would be disturbing. So the shortened version:

Healing Gear (first priority for now /cry):

  • Gladiator’s Chestpiece – 14.5K honor, 30 AB marks
  • Badges of Justice gear – boots, pants, belt, gloves = 255 Badges of Justice

Elemental Gear – (L) = leather :

  • Gladiator’s Gavel/Spellblade – 25.2K honor, 20 EotS marks
  • Badges of Justice gear – (L) chest, gloves, (L) belt, (L) wrist, boots = 290 Badges of Justice

Enhancement Gear

  • Honor Gear: Offhand, Chest, Bracers, Boots, Ring = 77.5K Honor, 30 AB marks, 20 WSG Marks, 10 AV marks, and 60 EotS marks
  • Badges of Justice gear – Pants = 75 Badges of Justice

Which ends up totaling: 620 Badges of Justice, 117,500 Honor Points, 60 AB Marks, 20 WSG Marks, 10 AV marks, and 80 EotS marks.  For one Shaman.

I think I’m going to go sit in a corner and cry for awhile, thanks.

Dear Warrior who just sent me a tell:

“You” has three letters; you misspelled healer, want, and the name of the instance. No, I will not heal for you.

Thanks, but no thanks,

Annorah

In which I am a lemming (2.4 patch notes)

2.4 test realm patch notes, as of February 9. Not that everyone else isn’t posting about them, but hey – now I have a permanent, easy to get to link.

I’ll talk about random bits of them later, I’m sure. As warned with my last patch notes rant, these are tentative until they are live. (You’ll notice the Lightwell change isn’t in there).

As for SSC, DAY2:  Leotheras and Karathress down. First attempts on Vashj. We got her through phase1 no problem. And, really, for having no idea what the hell was going on, we didn’t do too bad. Should be interesting next week, after everyone gets a chance to really process how it works. Because no matter how many times you’ve read the strats, there’s no substitute for actually standing up there and figuring it out as a raid. But I think we can do it, and do it well. Healing positioning is definitely going to be “fun”.

Dear Blizzard,

Please please PLEASE can you make it so that UI modifications are not lost when your lousy game crashes because it’s unstable when I load into an instance?

Disgruntledly,
Anna

ALSO! Please help me name the bear! (see post below for details!)

Corollary: You must actually hit “Stealth” to sneak past things. Even really dumb looking Gnolls. And even then sometimes stuff will roll to disbelieve, and win. Like the entirety of Scarlet Monastery Cathedral…
