The morning of the all hands summon to the Blasted Lands, Aely went for a walk. The late fall air was clear and cool, and leaves crunched under their feet in the less-traveled parts of the streets. She and Roger took the long way around Old Town, south through Tanner Circle and down Bulwarks, across […]

    post its

  1. The Giant UI Post of Doom arriveth on the morrow.  Prepare thee for wall of text!
  2. Achievements are kinda fun.  Also, kinda trigger the completionist, OCD tendencies I have for some of my characters.  Figuring out who gets to do which achievements will hopefully help though.
  3. Seeing all 12 of your guildmates getting the Leeroy, UBRS,  MC, BWL and other achievements losing its charm?  Siha’s got the answers.
  4. Angoleth’s Explorer title is on the way, with only Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine left on the Eastern continent.  I’m trying to do it slowly, so as not to burn myself out.  Getting to see old instances is definitely fun though.
  5. Old World, Legacy, “Retro” raids can be a lot of fun – but they’re not any fun at all when you’re with a group that doesn’t explain the fights and then laughs at/mocks people that die to mechanics they’ve never seen before.
  6. The achievement system’s “rewarding” of grandfathered achievements is about as reliable as the RNG.  This is exceedingly frustrating for me, for some reason.  Maybe because I have 5 characters competing for my time right now, and the one that farmed Z’G twice a week for 6 months didn’t get credit for it… but got credit for Van Cleef – an instance she’s run maybe twice?
  7. That big rant on the tolerance/acceptance of anti-roleplay attitudes is probably going to get put off indefinitely.  I don’t need to piss people off right now.
  8. Speaking of rants – GameDame has an excellent one, and one I’m not sure I’ve adequately responded to.
  9. I kind of wish that Blizzard would take the “random” holiday pets out of the game.  I hate farming for things that won’t drop only to lose the rolls to people I don’t know, and I hate that the achievement system rewards that kind of asshattery.  Make the pets something I can earn – even something *hard* – I don’t care.  But this RNG stuff gets old.
  10. I have a new cell phone!  (or will, when it arrives in the mail)  This makes me extremely happy, as my current phone inspires diatribes of profanity every time I try to do anything with it.
  11. Russ tanked Nefarian on Friday, when flame breathy thing WTFPWNT 2/3 of the 40 man raid due to lack of Onyxia cloaks.  I love my bear.
  12. Riptide has the single best animation in the Shaman arsenal, with the new chain lightning coming in a close second.  It’s a “we just won the superbowl, Gatorade-Dump” kind of thing.  I love it.
  13. I’ve seriously considered NaNoWriMo, but am not good enough at developing/sustaining plot to do more than consider.  Matticus, however, has some… interesting ideas.  I still think demon posession should be on that list.

  1. Anti-RP Rant? I suppose I could scrounge something up on my OOC page about it. It’s thankfully not as common on Cenarion Circle as I hear about on other RP realms, but I’ve seen enough of it to cringe at the “RP LAWL!” nonsense. Yes it’s RP, jackass. That’s why it’s an RP realm.

Ooh, I feel the blood beginning to boil. That usually inspires a post on a horribly lacking blog.

  2. @Arrens:

Roleplaying has become the tolerated red-headed stepchild of WoW. It’s perfectly acceptable to bash RPers, be nasty to RPers, and in general make a complete douchewaffle of yourself in the name of “ruining RPers fun” – the GMs frequently won’t do anything about it, it’s rampant in the forums, and it’s cropped up on blogs and even at Blizzcon. Yet, when RPers point this out, or otherwise mention that maybe they can do whatever they want with their $15, they’re “oversensitive and whiny” or any of another of a whole list of nasty epithets – and therefore DESERVE to be griefed about it.

And heaven forbid we attempt to do anything that non-RPers do, like PVP. or Raid. I’ve seen it more and more recently, and it’s pissing me off.

  3. A little post has been made on my OOC page about it. I’ve seen it too. I’m not much in the raiding scene anymore, but I couldn’t begin to tell you how many tells I’ve received in the BG’s about how bad Cenarion Circle is at PvP. That is, until the game’s over and my damage output is there for all to see. I either get a tell back saying “Wow, I was wrong, Good job!” or the all-too-often “Guess you got lucky.”

Either way, I don’t care. I know my capabilities and limitations and do, in fact, make the most of my $15/month in any way I see fit.

Besides, I enjoy cycling my ignore list ;)

  4. What’s even more demoralizing is that the Horseman’s Helm (a fantastic DPS warrior helm for early raiders) is part of an achievement, basically encouraging people who can’t use it to roll against someone who can.

It’s also annoying that I owned one… vendored it many months ago when I got an upgrade… and don’t have the achievement because of this. (ie. agreeing with #6 on your list)

THIS. I went to fight Corin Direbrew just about every day of Brewfest, and the one time we saw a kodo I was outrolled by someone who just randomly came because they were bored.

Then again, I have that complaint with WoW’s loot system in general. It rewards random good luck far better than it rewards hard work.

  7. I agree with #9. It was for that reason I did not go after Corin Direbrew and why I refuse to participate in the HH quest.

Regarding #7, there are many haters in the game. I’ve even seen RPers who hate on other RPers. One guy went so far as to disparage (by calling them gay) any RPer with a human char who rides a saber mount. And this was in his RSP description.

Some of the anti-RP crowd is good at heckling without ever crossing the line into reportable offense which is why I find I can rarely report anti-RP behavior.

  8. @Garilos Duroc:

And that’s the problem – half the time even if it is legitimate griefing, the GM’s do nothing. Or they’ll tell you “just put the person on /ignore” – which is great if they’re being verbal, but does you no good when there are four undead warlocks sitting peacefully on the groom during a wedding (for example).

  9. I don’t mind at all that new people can now go into MC or BWL and get that achievement, what really pisses me off, is that blizz is not giving that achievement to the people that actually ran it pre bc in lvl 60, with all the effort and wipes and progession.
And acording to my achievements, i didnt ran it ever, when i actually ran it pre bc and ran it again like 3 days before 3.0 came out.
Or even worst, acording to my achievements, i never ran heroic mech, slave pens, mana tombs…etc etc, i actually ran every single instance in Burning Crusade(normal and heroic), so if they are not tracking this, why are they putting achievements for that instances?
    i rest my case :)

  10. 13. NaNoWriMo – Like the ads say, just do it. Ego has created a ning group for those of us participating this year. If you get stuck, you can always ask for help.

  11. @teh Khol Abides:

I would – but I don’t have even the faintest hint of an idea. And I’ve found that if I’m going to sit down and write, sitting staring at a screen with no idea what to put down isn’t the most prudent use of my time, nor is it good for my mental state. (And I’ll admit to having a bit of a mental block, after having been told to stick to nonfiction and poetry, as my ability/inability to write plot doomed every fiction piece I’ve ever tried)

Is the ning group the same one that Bre over at Gun’LOvin Dwarf Chick is using? I know she was talking about one.

  12. Anna, feel your pain. It’s horrible. I still argue that the way to fix the problem is to have dedicated GMs on each server that are in tune with the community’s expectations. I’ve had GMs who have understood the plight of roleplayers and try to help, only to run into ones who ask me if my complain is even a valid one — and this was in response to people ridiculing, bad-mouthing, and interrupting roleplaying while using the lewdest kind of speech.

Rant aside, I’ve been contemplating NaNoWriMo myself. I’m not much of a writer, but I have so many stories in my head that it’s almost crazy. I go back and forth with the idea.

And, finally, regarding achievements, if you kept loot or finished quests dealing with the last bosses of those instances, you got credit. It was the only way to confirm it. As a roleplayer, I managed to keep a lot of pieces of armor for roleplaying purposes, so I managed to get a lot of credit. Cut down on the need to run some instances.

Veneretio: The helm needed is actually the Hallowed Helm and not The Horseman’s Helm. Gently remind anyone who says anything else that he’s an idiot and that he needs to learn to read. That way, the helm will actually go to a class that can use it.

  13. I’ve considered doing the NaNoWriMo also. I figure I would have to write every day to meet the goal but I’m not sure I want to put that much effort into it.

I do want to write more, however. So, maybe I’ll use NaNoWriMo as a goad to write more often. It seems to be working, as I managed to write a short story tonight.

@Cynra – Having dedicated GMs who understand and respect RPing would be great. I wonder how many of asking for it would prompt a change? My fear is, push come to shove, how many would be willing to put their money where their mouth is, that is, cancel their subscription? I don’t know if I would.

I completely agree. I love that animation (and sound!) so much. The first raid we did post-patch, I described it over vent as a shaman dumping a bucket of water of the tank’s head. I got random whispers from raid members for the next few minutes with requests to have Riptide cast on them so they could see! So much fun!
