I found that trading my Bloody Brass Knuckles for a Gloom Reaper(http://www.wowhead.com/?item=863) produced a 40-point drop in overall DPS, so obviously that was a bad trade (unless the problem was my lack of axe skill, but I stuck with it until I had axe over 100, and there was no change).
