It didn’t take long to get from Thunder Bluff to the Echo Isles – Ankona took advantage of a wyvern so she could think and plan before getting to her destination. She had information to confirm with the spirits – was Gromnor dead? Was he really in the northern part of the Eastern Kingdoms, somewhere […]

  • I wonder if there will ever be a tabard/banner for the Ashen Verdict?
  • There’s a lot of freaky stuff in Icecrown. Really freaky. Winged skeleton dude with four heads and no legs? Freaky. Giant Floating Head with Mouthbeams? Freaky.
  • I’m amused that there are trash mobs that you can skip by having a rogue disarm traps. It’s about time!
  • Deus ex Machina is kinda weird. Deus ex Machina with Varian Wrynn is weirder. Varian Wrynn not being a dick? WTF?
  • Alright Blizzard – who are you and what have you done to Jaina. GAH. She was so strong, and had so much potential in WC3.  Now? What a disaster.
  • I’m enjoying ICC so far, overall. The fights are healing intensive, and occasionally annoying (the run away/out of range thing is REALLY getting old), but it’s still SO much better than Round Room of Badge Dispensation.
  • The /music/ in ICC is superb. The use of a high-voice children’s choir is perfectly spooky and eerie, and I love that hat tip back to previous soundtracks that have done similarly.
  • Jetpacks. ’nuff said.

Also, I got a new sword! It’s pretty cool (so much hit. blegh) … but it has a little skull-charm on it. With fangs. I can’t see this going well around any kitty-druids. The Fordragon Blades are still prettier.

I’m mildly amused that my first upgrade out of ICC (10 or 25) is for my retribution gear. My second upgrade was for my healing gear, but is the reputation ring, so I’m not sure it counts.

  1. An unfortunate thing that we learned the hard way while learning Marrowgar in the 25-man version: the traps that trigger the giant vrykul skeletons respawn, and do so more rapidly than the rest of the trash to boot. So while you *can* skip them, if you’re still learning Marrowgar I recommend that you don’t.

I’m also pleased at reports of The Chin’s behavior post-Deathbringer, though I obviously haven’t seen it myself. It’s nice to see him show a little humanity, and remember how to be a father first and a racist tool second. 😉

  2. Heeeeeeeee, I didn’t notice that the sword has a dangly on it! I’m just picturing the feral kitties going “*bat* *bat* *batbatbatbat*”. 😀

What you said, re: Jaina. *wiiiiiince* I finally finished the Christie Golden Arthas book and just want to steal Jaina back from Blizzard and rewrite her properly.

I’m so curious what Sylvannas has to say in the 5-mans; I hear she’s spectacular. Once I’m done with the Furious Holiday Knitting (I am popping my haste trinkets as often as they cool down, I tell you what), I may have to spend some time Hordeside to find out. 🙂

  3. Sylvannas in the 5man is a bit anticlimactic… I don’t know how she phases up against Jaina, but the whole thing is rather noneventful. Mainly I just don’t like her new voice actor so I could be biased – she comes off as being shallow and unconvincing. Sort of like someone trying to be emo because they think it will impress you…

Plus the whole end of the 5mans is rather melodramatic, isn’t it? When did dead ends on an open air platform ever bother us, the player? We’ve got flying mounts coming out of the wazoo. I know about suspending my disbelief, but I think we were already on the borderline when:
    1) We found out Arthas can’t run;
    2) “If the first three ice walls don’t stop them, surely the fourth one will!”
He’s like a children’s villain and that made me very sad. This is the Lich King, after all. The last thing I wanted him to be was a joke, and that’s what Blizzard’s written him into.

Re: giant floating head boss with mouthbeams – actually, that’s just a recolor of the old Reliquary of Souls from Black Temple. It’s a pretty freaky looking boss, but not unique to ICC unfortunately.

  4. @Lilkam – yeah, but I only saw that dude once in BT! It’s a new boss to a lot of people (really, me including, since I don’t count a one-off group as actually being familiar with anything in upper BT), and its … weird. And freaky. Was weird and freaky then too!

As for Arthas, he’s been anticlimactic in that way for the whole expansion. Oddly, I like what we’ve heard of him in the ICC raid instance, as he seems to get some of his creepy back – his voice acting seems a lot better there as well.

  5. I’m glad I’m not the only one who had that reaction to Jaina.
