The morning of the all hands summon to the Blasted Lands, Aely went for a walk. The late fall air was clear and cool, and leaves crunched under their feet in the less-traveled parts of the streets. She and Roger took the long way around Old Town, south through Tanner Circle and down Bulwarks, across […]

Friday Five, RP style – Speed Edition
comment 19 Written by on October 3, 2008 – 8:40 am

This Friday, rather than post really deep, thought provoking questions, I thought I’d do something a little different for our Friday Five.  These questions are meant to be snap answers – no more than 10-15 words.  Fast, simple answers are where I usually start when making a character, because in-game interaction can really change a lot (plus, if you’re not overly comfortable with the lore, it allows you to roll the character now, and build the actual lore/backstory later).

Feel free to answer these in the comments or in a blog post of your own – and, since I know we all love talking about our characters, after the 5 snap questions, you can tackle the “why” of any of them (but just pick one!).  I’ve tackled a few of my characters for these questions, but you’re more than welcome to just pick one!

  1. Is your character tall/short/average?  What kind of build?
    • Annorah is tall, and of average build
    • Angoleth is average height and thin/wiry
    • Annalira is short and of average build, a little on the soft side
    • Aelflaed is tall and athletic
    • Annylais is short and of average build
    • Annie Mae is average height and thin/wiry
  2. Name one thing about your character that is quirky, unusual, or unexpected.
    • Annalira is allergic to cats
    • Aelflaed is (catastrophically) accident prone
    • Annie Mae wants to be a cowgirl
  3. Name one thing about your character that is stereotypical of his/her class, race, or origin.
    • Angoleth loves bows, pets, and being in the woods
    • Annalira is religious, bookish, and peaceful
    • Aelflaed is resilient and quick to learn
    • Annie Mae is clever and inventive
  4. What is his or her favorite (or least favorite) article of clothing?
    • Annorah hates boots/shoes.
    • Berylla LOVES socks, all the better if they are obnoxious colored and mismatched.
    • Annalira loves robes, and collects them.
    • Aelflaed loves pretty armor, but hates cleaning/repairing it.
  5. What is your character’s favorite color?
    • Annorah – Blue; Angoleth – RED!  Annalira – Blue; Aelflaed – Purple; Annylais – Green; Annie Mae – Yellow.

  1. 1.) Arrens is tall for a former-human and lithe.
2.) He retains the memories of his slain victims when he eats their flesh.
3.) He is deeply commited to Sylvanas and the Royal Apothecary Society.
4.) His sword and dagger MUST be at his sides.
5.) Red. He enjoys seeing the blood of his victims.

  2. Hmm, excellent questions. Mallet, my Priest would be…

Taller than the average Dwarf. Slightly bulkier, too.

In terms of unexpected skills, while he may not know how to use guns or weapons, he is skilled in the art of Shaolin Kung Fu.

    And he definitely loves beer.

Mallet absolutely hates wearing tuxedos and other formal wear.

The favourite color, like mine, would have to be blue.

  3. 1. Is your character tall/short/average? What kind of build?
*Grizz is right about average height for a Tauren, maybe just a tad more muscular.
    *Max is short and skinny.
    2. Name one thing about your character that is quirky, unusual, or unexpected.
*Grizz – well, he’s a nekkid cow. I think that pretty much says it all.
*Max – the lights are on, but nobody is home. ;)
    3. Name one thing about your character that is stereotypical of his/her class, race, or origin.
*Grizz – He moos. A lot.
*Max – Hmm. I don’t really think Max readily fits any stereotypes.
    4. What is his or her favorite (or least favorite) article of clothing?
*Grizz – least favorite, all of them!
*Max – his Winter’s Veil hat
    5. What is your character’s favorite color?
    *Grizz – Blue
*Max – Yes. All of them. As many as possible.

  4. Wimzig is…

    1. average height for a gnome, but a bit leaner
    2. obsessed with his water business, but is a terrible salesman
    3. calculating and inventive
    4. sporting a brewfest hat that he has no recollection of obtaining
    5. a fanatic of the color purple

krizzlybears last blog post..Screenshot: Hex Lord Malacrass…

  5. 1. Average height for a Night Elf, but lean

    2. Has developed an unhealthy addiction to healing while under the effects of [Sulfuron Slammer]

    3. Has a bit of a god-complex… exhibit #1, a quote from a guildie in vent “where’s the elf with delusions of divinity?”

    4. Proud in a sadistic way of his fugly green 100-badge robe, which make his raid members cringe (CE tabard almost looks ok with it though)

    5. Blue, actually bought his Swift Blue Gryphon to match his hair!!

  6. 1. Khol is on the tall side, but of fairly average build. Aside from standing a few inches taller than most people, he’s largely unremarkable in appearance.

    2. Khol tends to obsess over details, sometimes to the point of distraction, missing the bigger picture.

    3. Khol really likes stealing things. He sees it as a personal challenge.

    4. Khol really doesn’t care for his armour in general, as he doesn’t like who he becomes when he wears it. He is rather partial to his cloak, though, since his best friend and former lover, Saya, gave it to him.

    5. Ironically, Khol is partial to hunter green.

  7. My response is here.
I found this Friday Five difficult to complete because I had to really think about why any of my characters might like or dislike an article of clothing.

  8. 1. Tall, flowing blonde hair, rugged features.
    2. I killed my father, who was a king, ironically becoming a “king” myself.
    3. I’m sort of a big deal when it comes to controlling an army of ghouls.
    4. Is Frostmourne a type of clothing?
    5. Black. Like the dark depths of my corrupted soul.

  9. 1. About average height, but quite muscular for a blood elf
    2. Lienna is very much pro horde, and truthfully is quite anti-blood elf
    3. A hunter who cares for the wilderness and animals, she’s fairly typical to her class
    4. She’s usually found in a robe while around town, not necessarily well-made ones
    5. Green, and it shows a lot in her choice of clothes

  10. # Is your character tall/short/average? What kind of build?

Urthona Starfallen is about as average as Night Elves can get. He’s seen as very tall among his guild, as they are primarily races of the Eastern Kingdoms.

    # Name one thing about your character that is quirky, unusual, or unexpected.

    He doesn’t like shapeshifting.

    # Name one thing about your character that is stereotypical of his/her class, race, or origin.

Urthona takes everything far far far too seriously. His sense of humor is sarcastic and loves a dry wit and pointed turn of phrase, but never really lets his guard down. There’s just too much work that needs to be done.

    # What is his or her favorite (or least favorite) article of clothing?

Even though he’s often mistaken on the paths of Darnassus for a warrior or hunter, Urthona cannot imagine his hair not tied behind him by his hair band. It’s a sentimental piece of leather that serves a very practical purpose.

    # What is your character’s favorite color?

Dark dark purple, specifically, the color of the eastern sky at dusk.

  11. Tarquin is notably tall and skinny – 6’3 and probably around 160 lbs.

He’s a keen student of history. Up until the past couple years he barely ever read, but his renewed interest in his heritage has led him to do a great deal of reading and research.

Speaking of that northern heritage, Tarquin is horrendously stubborn.

Either his black hat (one of many hats), or an archaic tartan cloak, the acquisition of which was a story I still need to write.

    His favorite color is whiskey.

  12. 1. Height and build
-Athorius is average height, tending to thin, but not athletic-looking by any means
-Luna towers over most other elves with a runner’s build
-Mogget is of such average height and build that she’d be easy to lose in a crowd (of gnomes even)
-Nithranduil is short enough to raise eyebrows with a scrawny build
-Drinn is slightly above average height with a powerful build (you wouldn’t want to be at the receiving end of his punch)

    2. Unusual trait
-Athorius is terrified of being in charge
    -Lunauviel is partial to cigars
-Mogget thinks her demons are complex bits of technomancy rather than living entities
-Nithranduil acts like he comes from money but works his rear off to maintain that image
-People threaten Drinn’s frog at their own considerable risk

    3. One stereotype
-Athorius, a druid, is very much “one with the land” :P
-Luna thinks the other races don’t have the necessary background to understand kaldorei or judge their actions
-Mogget, a gnome, is obsessed with technology
-Nithranduil, a blood elf, is convinced magical mastery is the only path to success
-Drinn, a blood knight, believes he has a right to whatever he is capable of taking

    4. Clothing
-Athorius would be lost without his herb pouches
-Luna is a clothes horse, but prizes her mooncloth robe, a gift from a friend
-Mogget has a great liking for hats of all kinds
    -Nithranduil likes his hair ornaments
-Drinn scoffs at the idea that clothing is anything but functional

    5. Color
    -Athorius: blue
    -Lunauviel: deep purple
    -Mogget: yellow
    -Nithranduil: silver
    -Drinn: maroon

  17. 1. Duerma is a bit short, even for a gnome – about 2’11”. She is curvier than normal due to childbearing, but is still fit.

    2. The obvious answer – she’s chronically narcoleptic!

    3. Like most gnomes, Duerma is very curious and interested in learning just about anything.

    4. Duerma is a clothes hound and has tons of different robes.

    5. Duerma loves to wear red.

  18. 1. Kaled and Khaotic are both average height, Khaotic is a bit on the tall side for a female. Kaled is rather skinny. Khaotic is alot stronger than she looks, her muscle is all lean rather than bulky.
    2. Kaled can’t do magic. He lost his inborn abilities when his parents died in a magical accident that also injured him. He learned to do the bits of magic that hunters do from the shamans of Mulgore. Khaotic hates spiders. She avoids all the spider hunter pets she sees and makes sure any she finds in the wild dies quickly.
    3. Kaled can be very dignified at times. Khaotic is rather cocky.
    4. Kaled hates hats. He wears either a simple headband or nothing on his head. He doesn’t really have a favorite piece of clothing. Khaotic likes robes when she’s just lounging at the house. Her favorite is a green one, being a redhead it looks good on her.
    5. Kaled- blue. Khaotic- green
