Squire Benjamin William Sullivan stood in the middle of Light’s Hope Chapel in his underpants.

Actually, it was white linen pants and a shift, but the effect was approximately the same. The little chapel was warm, on the edge of …

So, I’ve not had a whole lot of time to play WoW lately – and when I do, it’s usually after work, when I am le tired, and not really looking to spend a bunch of time in PUGs.

As such, most of my characters still don’t have a new spec, and NOBODY has all their glyphs yet (Aely is mostly done for her holy spec, but not her ret spec, Annylais has a kitty-DPS spec but no glyphs, and Angoleth has a beastmastery spec and maybe 2 of her glyphs? (more on that in a minute)).

I’m not really going to say much about classes or balance or wrath heroics jumping the shark or any of that stuff.

I will, however, say that hands down, my favorite change in 4.0?

The stable.

Thanks to the new pet stabling system, Angoleth has been able to go back and re-tame all of the pets she’s let go over the last almost 5 years (yikes!) because of limited stable space. At least, all the pets I can remember… ( way back in my noobpie days, I didn’t realize you could teach your pets new levels of skills, so I just retamed a new pet every 8-10 levels or so. I figured it out around level 45.)

Anyway, thanks to the stabling changes, I can now say happily that the following pets are back in action:

  • Karakum the Scorpid
  • Litha the Black Stranglethorn Panther
  • Rinna the Zulian Bat
  • Ishura the Windserpent
  • Talia the Owl
  • Tim… the Ravager **

And that they have been joined by:

  • Sriracha the Corehound
  • Squitterwit the Red Fuzzy Spider
  • and an unnamed red hyena, red raptor, and red silithid pets

I’m totally tickled, even though it means I have a metric ton of pets to level (probably literally, if you weighed them all… that Corehound is large). I couldn’t be happier with how things have turned out. I’ve always been a sentimental hunter, taking pets back to where they were tamed if I have to let them go. Being able to go back and “find” them there again? Totally awesome.

However, Pebbles the Devilsaur, Arsaelan the White Lion, Shan’re the Wolf, and Russ the Bear are none too pleased.

Because now?

I can’t pick which pets to have out when I wander around anymore.

angoleth

**there are some who call him… Tim…

PS: If anyone sees Skoll or Loque’nahak, let them know I’ve got a business proposition to make them…

  1. I went on a taming spree myself. I did retame a few that I had to let go before. I have 17 slots filled thus far.

  2. My stable is still a little on the emtpy side. I want to fill it with every beast possible, but I’m already comfortable with the few animals I do have. Would LOVE to capture a Fox once Cataclysm is out.

  3. Sriracha is the best corehound name EVER.

  4. I love the name Sriracha, but I can’t take credit for it, actually. The name came from Anexxia, one of my twitter friends, who writes a blog at http://www.furlinedteacup.com/bibleofdreams/ :)

  5. Best pet name I came across recently was a Tauren Hunter with a Grizzly Bear called “JohnMarsten”. I LOL’ed.

  6. @Bronte – Awhile back, when the Vice Presidential Hunting Accident was big news, I saw a Dwarf Hunter with an owl pet named DickCheney. I giggled at that too. I’ve never had a truly “funny” pet name (other than maybe Tim… The Ravager, who is a Monty Python reference), but I definitely get a kick out of the amusing ones.

  7. The stable really is the best thing from this patch by far, and you’re not the only one with a ton of pets to level ;) Altho I’m not bothering with a couple of Kel’s new buddies, since I plan on retaming different versions of them in Cata.

If i remember them all correctly, Kel now has retamed Shimmer the moth, Ruggs the rhino, Verdan the jade owl, Tyran the devilsaur (who wan’t gone for very long, but I still missed him), Blinks the warp stalker, Kymeera the chimera, and last but definately not least, her nightstalker Rhaj, who was the very first pet she ever tamed, and her main partner until she was a high enough level to tame her current frostsaber pride watcher. Ice the wind serpent and Shayd the jormungar worm have also joined the crew. She’s also camping for King Krush and Skoll. Different server though, so no worries about competition ;)

Blinks and Verdan will be re-retamed in Cata, as the new color-changing warp stalker and the ghostly spirit owl. I’m hoping I can get everyone else up to 80 by then. She’s gonna be getting at least one fox as well. Maybe two, if I can’t make up my mind over the black one or the blue/grey one.

Funny thing is, this is just one of my hunters, I have 2 other 80s and several littler alts that have their own rapidly-filling stables, I just don’t play them as much as Kel, so I’m not gonna take up comment space about them. I may have a slight addiction to the class. >.>

And sorry about the Wall o’ Text. This subject tends to make me ramble a bit.

  8. @Kel – Hah! ramble away. Hunter pets are one of my favorite rambly topics really. I actually have three hunters as well – Angoleth, Anrietta (my level 26ish dwarf hunter) and Anaje (my level 22ish tauren hunter). The two lowbies both have one pet that they love exclusively (Spot the Leopard and Sly the Coyote, respectively), so I don’t have much in the way of pet-collecting going on yet for them. Angoleth has always had a number of pets though, and she’s my non-combat-pet collector as well. :D

  9. I have been looking for Skol for weeks before finally just giving it up – and then the new patch drops and five minutes after logging in there he was. I almost missed him. Good that I still had that add-on (_npc-scan) installed. It almost gave me a heart attack when the alarm went off. *he-he*

  10. I’ve been taking advantage of the stable changes by taming several pets with Lark that I hadn’t really wanted to try before. She now has a corehound, hyena, chimaera, bear, and another cat (Araga!) to go with her 3 IC pets. And now that they’re finally all 80, I’m thinking of what other pets I’d like to try…

My troll has been busy too, he’s got his raptor, rhino, and silithid back, and now he’s camping for Old Cliff Jumper. Although considering he and Lark seem to have completely opposite luck, I may camp OCJ with her, then just switch to Booggah when I find him. >.>

My baby alt hunters need to level before they can tame any others, since most of the ones I want are higher-level. They’re not being neglected, just coming along more slowly than the others.
