The morning of the all hands summon to the Blasted Lands, Aely went for a walk. The late fall air was clear and cool, and leaves crunched under their feet in the less-traveled parts of the streets. She and Roger took the long way around Old Town, south through Tanner Circle and down Bulwarks, across […]

RP Friday Five – Argent Tournament
comment 7 Written by on April 24, 2009 – 9:25 am

Every Friday here at Too Many Annas, you’ll find a little RP prompting – either in the form of 5 questions to answer about your character or in the form of a ficlet prompt (500 words) to write about them.  These aren’t meant to be hard, just things to think about for your character – you can answer in a comment or use them as a blog post of your own!

This week we’re tackling the Argent Tournament (and a few other things!).

  • Is your character participating in the Tourney? (If no, are you doing it OOC?)
  • If asked “What is your home city”, how would your character respond?  If the answer is not their “Faction Capitol” – why not?
  • There are rumors in Dalaran that a Dwarven Expedition has unearthed an Old God – how will your character react?
  • Does your character side more with Varian/Garrosh, or with Thrall/Jaina?
  • Meta Question: Are there things you do with your character that are OOC, but have IC rewards? (Reputation for a Faction Item, farming for a non-combat pet, or Dailies/Quests for a title like Loremaster, for example?)  Do you have an IC explanation?

Bonus Ficlet Idea: In 500 words, the conversation between your character and the Argent Tournament recruiter for his or her faction capitol.

  1. Since I’ve been playing my priest more than Khol lately, I’ll let both of them answer this set of questions…

    1. Khol: Wait, lemme get this straight…you want to pay me to fight other people to find the strongest warriors who then win the “privilege” of assaulting the Icecrown Citadel? Sure, why the nether not…but I think I’ll pass on the grand prize.

Iriandra: It is an honour to represent the Exodar in this tournament of champions. I only hope my martial skills are as strong as my faith.

    2. Khol: Born and raised on the streets of Stormwind, greatest cesspool in the world.

Iriandra: Though I was born on the Exodar, I find more peace among the boughs of Teldrassil and Darnassus than the crystal-lined passage ways of our dimansional ship. Once you get past their initial standoffishness for looking like an Eredar, the night elves really are a lovely people.

    3. Khol: What. The. F@#k. What? The druids digging around in Silithus and uncovering C’Thun wasn’t enough for them? They had to go digging for MORE trouble here in Northrend??

Iriandra: The dwarves’ curiosity will one day be their unfortunate end. For now, however, we must either destroy or seal away this new Old God before it is able to wreak havoc.

    4. Khol: The king is right about the orcs, though with the Lich King breathing down our collective necks, Alliance and Horde alike, we can ill afford a war at this time, especially one that would be as large as a war between the Alliance and Horde.

Iriandra: I do not understand the king’s antipathy toward the orcs and the Horde. Granted, I have not had many dealings with them, but when I have, I have found them to be a strong, honourable people. I do not understand why the Alliance and Horde are so at odds with each other. The king should listen to Lady Proudmoore’s advice.

    5. Meta Khol: Well, I haven’t joined Malygos in his quest against the Kirin Tor yet, because the game won’t let me…and I’ve even earned a bit of rep with them (strictly by accident, I assure you.) The only reason I work with them is to lull them into a false sense of security.

    Meta Iriandra: Nope, not really.

  2. 1. Roldelan is participating as that unfortunate, token Death Knight amidst an entire sea of paladins. This is a good running joke in his eyes, in between knocking champions off their horses and punting valiants. Rollandren will also participate as soon as he is able to do so. Both are most definitely competing ICly; both have combat training as knights as part of their past, and both are eager to put it to use again.

    2. Both Roldelan and Rollandren would identify Stromgarde as their home city. Neither identifies with Stormwind much, or Lordaeron, since Stromgarde was part of neither kingdom but one of the five smaller human realms, along with Dalaran and Alterac.

    3. Roldelan will most likely curse in frustration and start killing even more Iron Dwarves with greater fervor. Rollandren would probably nearly faint, having fought in the last major conflict with an Old God, the immense conflict that occurred down in Silithus when the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj opened. After that, he’d likely spend some time praying, then go off and fight Iron Dwarves and other Old God servants at every turn, once he calms down.

    4. Roldelan privately considers Varian a grade A moron despite being calculatedly quietly on it. By contrast, recent events have caused him to respect Jaina Proudmoore more than he did. He’s protested Varian’s recent moves by dedicating his victories at the tournament to Jaina Proudmoore instead of Varian, unlike many of the knights competing on Stormwind’s behalf. If he were asked about Garrosh he’d likely say Garrosh is just as stupid as Varian, but he holds a certain quiet and reserved respect for Thrall. Rollandren has been struggling to remain neutral between the two Alliance leaders, sympathizing more with Jaina but hoping that Varian might change what Rollandren sees as the Alliance always getting the short end of the stick in its dealings with the Horde. If asked how he feels about the Horde leaders, he would hold a certain respect for Thrall but would also consider Garrosh a complete idiot.

    5. It is not very often that I do something OOC with the intention of getting something to use IC. I might go to dungeons OOCly to find a piece of gear that I want a character to have ICly, in which case I’d normally say they found it by other means. I am getting Roldelan to Exalted with the Kirin Tor for the sake of achievements and maybe a head tanking item despite him ICly disliking the Kirin Tor, but the rewards are OOC anyway. The one very strong example I can think of was when Rollandren farmed for his Crimson Whelpling pet; the mass slaughter of maybe a thousand whelps didn’t make very much IC sense but I wanted Rollandren to have Alignar around ICly, so I made the IC story that Rollandren stumbled upon the baby red dragon by accident.

  3. * Is your character participating in the Tourney? (If no, are you doing it OOC?)
Yes. As a Honorary Champion of the Argent Dawn he feels it is a privelege, if not a duty, to participate in the tournament to show his readiness to fight against the Lich King.

    * If asked “What is your home city”, how would your character respond? If the answer is not their “Faction Capitol” – why not?
My character would reply with ‘My home is the City of Dalaran.’ and not ‘The Undercity – was that a poor attempt at humor?’ because (as I have said in other friday 5 questionares) that he has been booted out of the forsaken because he has regained his humanity, and thus fits in more with the people of Dalaran (as much as the children may look at him funny) then the dredge of the forsaken (previously he hung out in Org).

    * There are rumors in Dalaran that a Dwarven Expedition has unearthed an Old God – how will your character react?
Rather fearful actually and saddened that he believes he does not possess the skill to accompany adventurers on behalf of the kirin tor to explore Ulduar and uncover it’s horrors lurking below.

    * Does your character side more with Varian/Garrosh, or with Thrall/Jaina?
My character is more on the Thral/Jaina side of the argument, but this may only be because he redeemed himself and found his humanity again. Actually he would try to talk to Varian and see if he cannot convince him that Thrall is indeed trying to turn the horde right way around if he didn’t think the rather bitter king would try to lop his head off at first sight.

recently I got the argent champion achievement to tie my character’s affiliation to the argent dawn into my actual game experience, however in order to do so I had to do many different runs of the Scholomance and Stratholme to get the required rep. At present I have no real explanation for these solo forming runs other than as extra-ciricular exploration after-the-fact; that is to say, after a group of heroes has already been through and destroyed many of the horrors within the Scholomance. He also could’ve simply been on raiding runs through both locations, either thinning down scourge numbers or obtaining objects of interest in high-danger zones for the argent dawn (that were obviously not pre-made quests).
